Willmar Public Schools/Community Ed and Rec

Willmar Public Schools Community Education and Early Childhood Family Programs take pride in investing in our youngest learners and in preparing children and families for success in school.

Kids Together Preschool is a program of Willmar Public Schools CER and provides innovative classrooms where creativity and imagination soar! Our diverse classrooms help students discover a love for learning in an interactive, stimulating, and academically rich environment. Your child will be immersed in a stimulating learning environment filled with fun, challenging, and creative learning activities!
Our curriculum is a balanced approach of all social-emotional and academic areas. We focus on personalized learning for your child. Lessons are designed around your child’s skills to prepare them for kindergarten and beyond.

Our half day programs run 4 or 5 times per week for 4 year olds, while our 3 year old programs run 2 or 3 times per week. We have limited busing for 4 year old children.
For the 2018-2019 school year our 4 year old preschool programs will be located in each of our elementary buildings while 3 year old programming will remain at Jefferson Learning Center.

Cardinal Kids Preschool is an all day-every day fee-based program, which runs September-May. Classroom environment and curriculum follow the same quality learning experiences as Kids Together Preschool.

Our program content, highly qualified teachers and use of best practices have earned our programs the highest rating through Parent Aware. Early Learning Scholarships and Voluntary Pre-K dollars are available to those who qualify at all program sites.

Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) is a program for all
Willmar families with children between the ages of birth to
kindergarten entrance. ECFE is based on the idea that the family provides a child’s first and most significant learning environment and parents are a child’s first and most important teachers. ECFE works to strengthen families. ECFE’s goal is to enhance the ability of all parents to provide the best possible environment for their child’s learning and growth. In addition to classes ECFE offers parent child events, home visits, classes with the library and much more.

Heartland Head Start is a comprehensive child and family program serving children who are three to five years of age. Heartland Head Start partners with eligible families to build on their strengths to reach their goals. Family and Community Engagement is an important part of the Head Start program. We believe that families are the child’s first and most important teachers. Children do best in life when they grow up with the active, positive involvement of family and community members that care.

Heartland Head Start offers a variety of early learning options including center based (4 days a week), Home Base, and Combination educational opportunities. Heartland Head Start utilizes the Creative Curriculum and monitors and supports both Child and Family outcomes in an effort to ensure that children enter school ready to learn.

If interested in applying for Head Start or becoming a community volunteer please call or email.
